About Occult API

Occult API turns Vedic astrological calculation into something you can call over HTTP. 130 endpoints cover 417 distinct calculations — panchang, kundli and divisional charts, dashas, yogas, muhurat timings, ashtakavarga, planetary strength, horoscope matching and regional calendars.

The work that is actually hard here is not the HTTP layer. It is getting the astronomy right, deciding which classical convention an endpoint follows, and then saying so plainly in the documentation so a developer with no background in jyotisha can use it correctly.

Positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris, the same ephemeris professional astrological software is built on, with the full 105 MB data set including its 735 fixed stars. Nothing is interpolated from a lookup table and nothing is written by a language model.

Where classical sources disagree — ayanamsa, house system, rising convention, amanta versus purnimanta reckoning — we expose the choice as a parameter rather than picking one silently, and the documentation states which default applies.

Every one of the 130 endpoints on sale has been called against a running server and its response recorded; 130 carry a verified example. Each documented response key is probed individually, so we know which ones work rather than assuming the endpoint as a whole does.

That process has stopped us shipping things. Three endpoints were built and withdrawn before release after testing showed the underlying calculation returned the same answer for every chart — a response that looks entirely plausible and is worthless. We would rather sell fewer endpoints than sell one that answers nothing.
